Swedish melodic skate punk band Mistakes Were Made have released their new single, "Duct Tape & Wishes," which finds the band examining a relationship caught in a cycle of conflict, reconciliation and repeated breakdowns. The song is taken from the band's new three-track EP, Corporate Punks, which is out now.
Hailing from Norrköping, Mistakes Were Made deliver the kind of fast, hook-filled melodic punk that fans of the '90s Epi/Fat sound should feel right at home with. Big choruses, layered vocals, driving guitars... it's all there. It's a tried and true formula, but it still works and these guys are doing a great job.
Lyrically, Corporate Punks tackles anxiety, relationships under strain, hangovers and the challenge of trying to keep it together while the world seems to be spinning faster by the day. The band cites influences including Millencolin, NOFX, Bad Religion, Rise Against and Useless ID, and those inspirations are easy to pick out without the songs ever feeling like a nostalgia exercise.
