We’re excited to premiere “Celestial,” the latest single from Samuel S.C. and the fourth entry in their monthly single series launched back in January. As Vanessa Downing delivers the lines, “Hold your ground, I’ll check my position / All that’s celestial stays hidden in our eyes," the rest of the band surges  with a Superchunk-esque rush that is driving, melodic, and restless. It’s a track that hits hard while still bubbling with tension and bounce. The series will culminate in a vinyl and digital LP later this year via Expert Work Records and Sweet Cheetah Records, bringing together the singles with new, unreleased material.

Formerly known as Samuel, the band continues to blur the lines between ’90s indie-rock grit and timeless punk urgency. Originally a staple of Eric Astor’s Art Monk Construction label, Samuel S.C. reformed in 2021 with their DIY ethos fully intact—and they’ve only picked up speed since.

“Celestial” follows a run of 2026 releases including the ripper that was “Get Red,” the propulsive “Push the Needle,” and the reflective “Another Good Lie.” All tracks were recorded and mixed in 2025 by J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) at his Baltimore studio, Magpie Cage.

The band’s recent resurgence builds on a standout year that included a 10” split with Florida’s Pohgoh and notable performances at Fest in Gainesville and the inaugural Several States Festival in Chicago.

Samuel S.C.’s current lineup features original members Vanessa Downing (vocals), Eric Astor (drums), James Marinelli (guitar/vocals), and Dean Taormina (guitar), with Michael Honch (Continuals, Alarms & Controls) on bass. With the new full-length album slated for later this year, one thing is clear: Samuel S.C. aren’t slowing down anytime soon.
