Album Reviews
While you can still hear the Bay Area pop-punk influences of Green Day on songs like ‘Party Eyes’ and ‘’, Greece’s The Overjoyed have moved into the grittier power-pop side of the neighborhood on their new self-titled album.
The unstoppable one-two punch of opener ‘Can’t Write Music’ and ‘Spark’ have more to do with a band like Bad Nerves and Marked Men than anything else. Heavy on the reverb, tons of energy and only the slickest of melodies. ‘Rotten Love’ rides high on a solid riff and another killer chorus, ‘Laundromat’ is relentless and closer ‘Final Lap’ brings The Living End to mind. There’s a whole lot going on in just nine songs and all of it is good.
Recorded at the band’s own Buduzi Studios in Athens and produced by the band themselves, the album was mixed by Marios Adamopoulos and mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road Studios, The Overjoyed’s self-titled album is a ridiculously fun ride.
