The Bobby Lees, the Woodstock, NY punk trio known for their chaotic energy and ferocious live shows, are back with a new album, New Self, set to drop on June 12. Led by singer and guitarist Sam Quartin, drummer Macky Bowman, and bassist Kendall Wind, the band has built a reputation for turning raw teenage angst into jagged, unforgettable music.

Their latest single, the album’s title track, arrived today. A desert-hazed, confessional tune, Quartin describes it as “like a diary entry that I’m letting strangers read… kinda weird to share—but fuck it.” Drawing on late ‘90s hip hop and nu metal influences, the song was produced by Dave Sardy, who helped capture the band’s signature mix of chaos and precision.

Since forming in 2017, The Bobby Lees have toured extensively across the U.S. and Europe, earning fans among punk icons like Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, and Henry Rollins. Their reputation for high-octane performances has only grown with each release, and New Self, their fourth full-length and first with Epitaph Records, pushes their sound into even bigger, brasher territory. Produced in Los Angeles by Sardy and Alex Pasco, the album spreads the band’s trademark energy across a wider sonic landscape than ever before.

The new record comes after a challenging period for the band. In late 2023, mounting financial pressures and the grind of touring led to an indefinite hiatus. “We hit a ceiling with the cycle of funding our own records and then barely breaking even on tour,” Quartin explains. The break gave the group time to recharge and rethink how to sustain their career without burning out.

Support from fans—most notably a personal offer from actor Jason Momoa to help fund their next album—helped bring them back into the studio. “That was such a gift for us,” Quartin says. “It made the whole experience of making the record a lot lighter.”

New Self captures a band emerging from uncertainty stronger and more self-assured. It’s loud, fierce, and expansive and finds The Bobby Lees embracing a newfound confidence while staying true to the reckless energy that has defined them from the start.
