Somewhere between Lakes Mendota and Monona, in a space that feels half-myth and half-memory, Bashford recorded their newest record, Wannabe. The Madison-based grunge-punk band has always carried a sound that knows when to explode and when to retreat. Loud when it needs to be, quiet when it hurts the most. With 'Rage Bucket,' the first single from Wannabe, they’ve distilled that dynamic tension into 2 minutes and 38 seconds of raw, melodic defiance.

'Rage Bucket' is exactly what it sounds like: a vessel for everything that can’t stay bottled up. It seethes, it sighs, and it finds a strange kind of grace in the noise. The track rides the highs and lows of belief and burnout, built on thick, fuzzed-out riffs. It’s grunge sharpened by punk grit, shaped by the Midwest winters and basement shows that raised this band.

“Rage Bucket rides a heavy riff and digs into that feeling of being boxed in, pacing circles in your own head" says the band about the single. "It’s about taking all that pressure and turning it into release. The music drives with aggression, but the words lean on defiance, change, and growth. It’s angry, but it’s also about transformation.”

Recorded on what they jokingly call a “sunken pirate ship” between Madison’s two lakes, Wannabe is a record about wanting something more, even when you’re running on empty. And if this single is any indication, Bashford has plenty more to give.
