Upcoming Releases

Chattanooga, TN hardcore upstarts, Gumm, have announced their sophomore full-length, Beneath The Wheel, due out October 31st via punk's most reliably awesome label, Convulse Records. Gumm's adventurous strain of hardcore is fueled by inventive riffs, a truly pummeling rhythm section, and vocalist Drew Waldon's throat-shredding roar, all of which have been dialed even further into the red on Beneath The Wheel.
To celebrate the announcement Gumm have shared Beneath The Wheel's explosive lead single, "New From The Pain," a sub two-minute outsider anthem of stomping drums and twisting post-hardcore guitars. Waldon discussed the song and its connection to Beneath The Wheel's broader themes, saying "I think a lot of the lyrics on the record deal with isolation and alienation, with a focus on self-work and self-preservation. Not fitting in, not being truly connected...those feelings lead me to isolate and bury parts of myself. Only recently have I tried to actually face these things and build something new out of them. I don’t want to be defined by feelings of isolation, I want to use the pain to make myself stronger and more open and vulnerable.”
Gumm emerged from the Tennessee underground in 2023 with their debut album, Slogan Machine, drawing attention from the likes of Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, Exclaim, and more. Now Beneath The Wheel further refines their unique take on hardcore. Recorded by Tate Mercer (Dying Wish, Chamber), the album is equal parts eye-bulging aggression, sonic imagination, and open-hearted lyricism. "...really digging and uprooting your self-sabotaging impulse sometimes requires much more than just love and support,” he says. “It requires blood and sweat and tears. There’s hard work to be done.” Waldon explores the noise inside his head with the same defiant attack as the noise Gumm ratchets up across Beneath The Wheel, making for an album that's as human as it is hard-hitting.
