Album Reviews

You might not expect a band called Broken Yolks to dive deep into themes like disconnection, frustration, and the tug-of-war between action and apathy, but that’s exactly what these Canadian skatepunks do on their debut full-length, The View Of The Bystander, out now on High End Denim Records.
With drums poised to launch into warp speed at any given moment, solid riffage that flirts with metal, and a sound that’s both frenetic and melodic, there’s a lot packed into these 15 tracks. Pulling that off is impressive enough. Doing it as a three-piece is even more so.
Broken Yolks deliver songs as raw as they are urgent, and they’re not shy about calling out the messed-up state of the world or the inaction of those in power. If you’re into aggressive yet tuneful skatepunk with a conscience, The View of the Bystander will be right up your alley. Sure, a couple of cuts (Misery, Danger Close) don’t quite hit the target, but there’s still plenty here worth cranking loud.
