Melodic punk rock band Harker have released the ultimate anti-anthem ‘I Ruin Everything’, fuelled by feelings of inadequacy surrounding experiences with ADHD. Watch the music video now. Vocalist and guitarist Mark Boniface says: "I wrote this song about a year prior to my positive diagnosis of ADHD, and was at an extreme peak of mental breakdown – Not knowing the reasons why and how I react in difficult situations. When you're really down there it's easy to let paranoia take hold of you, and I think this track is an outpouring of how I felt towards myself and others at the time. A kneejerk reaction to all those feelings of loneliness, frustration and failure."
The track was recorded & mixed by Toby May (The Levellers, The Wedding Present, CLT DRP) with additional production from the band themselves. It was mastered by Jason Livermore (Propagandhi, Rise Against, Hot Water Music, NOFX) at Blasting Rooms.
Hailing from Brighton, UK, Harker’s sound blends a love of Dischord Records and 90's indie fuzz, as well as pop sensibilities, akin to the works of Superchunk, Against Me! and The Replacements. ‘I Ruin Everything’ proves their chops as melodic punk songwriters of the highest order as the track’s earworm melody permeates your heart and soul upon your very first listen and only elevates in your consciousness upon subsequent hits of the “play” button. It’s easy to identify with the sentiment and feel it deeply, and isn’t that what all the best punk songs have in common? The pure melody of the track and its effortless riff delivery work hand in hand with the crushing lyrics to deliver Harker’s message on this one with apparent ease. Its title and refrain are crying out to be screamed back at the band in every live setting imaginable.
Since forming in 2015, Harker have released two UK-charting full length albums as well as embarking on several tours across the UK, EU and Japan. Originally starting as a solo project, Boniface cut their teeth opening shows and playing house shows wherever they could. After a couple self-released independent releases, a full band was formed as the songs “weren't loud or scary enough”.
'I Ruin Everything' is the first single from Harker’s upcoming third record, due for release in 2026. Before that, the band will be heading out on a UK tour, as well as flying over to the US in October for a week-long tour which includes an appearance at the annual (and legendary) punk rock event THE FEST in Gainesville, Florida.
