Local Drags are back and today we are premiering the brand new music video for “Staring At The Telephone,” the latest single from the upcoming album Cool If We Split?, out May 29 on Stardumb Records (pre-order).

The Springfield, Illinois power pop outfit continues to sharpen its sound on Cool If We Split?, delivering what may be the purest and most immediate Local Drags record to date. Following the darker undertones of 2024’s City In A Room, songwriter Lanny Durbin intentionally pushed deeper into the brighter, louder, hook-heavy side of power pop because, as he puts it, “the world is dark enough.”

That balance defines “Staring At The Telephone.” Beneath the infectious melodies and driving guitars sits the familiar emotional weight Local Drags fans know well. But this time, the amps are turned all the way up. Big hooks, bouncy rhythms, and louder-than-ever guitars push back against the static.

Cool If We Split? was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Luke McNeill (The Copyrights) at Capitol City Recording, and produced by McNeill alongside Lanny Durbin.
