Boutique reissue label Numero Group have announced Hüsker Dü’s 1985: The Miracle Year, a live 4-LP box set that will be out November 7. It features the iconic punk trio’s entire January 30, 1985 set at Minneapolis’ First Avenue club, plus 20 more live tracks recorded throughout that year of near-constant touring.
Hüsker Dü always seemed to be an album ahead and though the First Avenue show happened just two weeks after releasing New Day Rising, they played five songs from Flip Your Wig, their final album for SST, which would come out in September of the same year. “When I think of that time,” bassist Greg Norton says now, “it was three guys doing what they loved, having fun, and basically showing other people that you can be true to yourself, true to your music, and not have to bow down to fashion or expectations to make something really great.”
The Miracle Year also comes with a deluxe booklet that details Hüsker Dü’s very busy, very prolific year. You can hear four tracks from it now: “The Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill,” “I Apologize,” “If I Told You” and “Folklore.”
