Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Slow Shiv is a three-piece featuring Diarrhea Planet's Jordan Smith, producer Dan Diaz - who also played bass for Diarrhea Planet during the band's final tours - and Advent's Jordan McGee. On the aptly titled second EP, II, they tear through four tracks of what they describe as "diet violence" and "mean pop." If those labels don't mean much to you, imagine Andrew W.K. fronting CKY.
The band's mission statement is to write pop music for heavy music fans, but they'll happily settle for writing heavy music for pop fans. After hearing these four songs, it's safe to say they've accomplished exactly that. I'd love to hear what they can do across a full-length, because II is a seriously promising taste of what's to come.
