Her Bright Skies may get to call Sweden home, yet they sound decidedly American on “Rivals”, the band’s third album. Opener “Working Class Punx” is as good a blueprint of what’s to come as the other songs on here with its upbeat rhythm, driving guitars and solid vocal work courtesy of Johan Brolin before going all epic on our asses in the chorus. Or just take a look at one of their stylized photos… you’ll know right away what they’re going to sound like and that they would blend in perfectly on the Rise Records roster for example.

The way these guys mix rock, emo, punk and poppy parts along with a healthy dose of teen angst is a formula they repeat throughout the album and while the songs start to blend together after a while, it never gets boring. And hey, if the formula works for bands like LostProphets, Asking Alexandria and The Used, then there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work for these guys… right?

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
