New Orleans isn’t exactly a city I’d associate with fast music. There’s something about the humidity there that makes it better suited for bands like Down. That said, Heat Dust is here to shatter that preconceived notion of mine with their self-titled EP.

The guitars are buzzing away nicely while the band discusses whether they are more rock, noise, punk or shoegaze before deciding to fuck it all and lump everything together. This results in mostly up-tempo tunes that come with more laid-back vocals. Even when they slow things down to a drone in “Let Them Give Up”, the song stays nice and crunchy.

If you’re a 90’s nostalgic likes me that still is in awe of bands like Dinosaur Jr and Sebadoh, you might want to check out Heat Dust.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
