I still have fond memories of one of these guys’ older albums so I was kinda looking forward to hearing “Homesick”, the band’s latest release. Unfortunately it finds them still clinging to the exact same formula as when I last heard them with their mix of metalcore and poppunk.

Take a catchy chorus that belongs in a poppunk band along with some fist-pumping verses, throw in some growls and heavier-than-thou breakdowns and there ya go… you’ve made yourself a Day To Remember song. It’s fun for a track or two but from there on things just get stale and repetitive. And don’t even get me started about the obligatory ballad that comes complete with female guest vocals by VersaEmerge’s Sierra Kusterbeck!

Everything on “Homesick” just sounds so damn by-the-numbers! Plus the poppy parts are too saccharine and the breakdowns are just ridiculous. Let’s just hope the new Set Your Goals album will be more inspired!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
