I have to say it took me a while to get into Game Of Thrones, the TV series based on the books by George R.R. Martin. The first episodes of the first season didn’t really do it for me. Once I was aboard though, I was seriously looking forward to the second season and I have to say that the new episodes deliver in a big way.

Even more so than in the second half of the first season, the crew behind of Game Of Thrones seem to have found a pace that works well for them. They even gained enough trust to deviate from the books by either tweaking a storyline or completely changing it. This time around a war is brewing as the five kings try to unite the lands under the Iron Throne. Needless to say, this leads to a fair amount of backstabbing… or just plain stabbing.

Just like in the first series, there is still plenty of violence, nudity and scheming to go round. This time around they also included an epic battle scene in the “Blackwater” episode, something that was missing in the first series. It just goes to show how much their confidence (and probably the budget) has grown.

It’ll remain an extremely difficult task to translate Martin’s saga to the TV screen but for season 2, we can safely say that it’s mission accomplished!
