Based on the short-lived 1976 TV series, Electra Woman & Dyna Girl are making a comeback. Or well, getting a reboot. The original actresses, who are well in their sixties now, have been replaced by Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart, two YouTube celebs who originally conceived this as an eight-episode web series.

Anyway, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl are two superpower-less superheroes who take out bad guys somewhere in Ohio, the crime-riddled epicenter of the US. They are also very broke. So when they are contacted by Creative Masked Management, they jump on the chance to make it to the big leagues and to hopefully sign a couple of endorsement deals along the way. When they are wooed by CMM’s Dan Dixon (The Office’s Andy Buckley), Electra Woman immediately has stars in her eyes while Dyna Girl is a bit more skeptical. You can pretty much guess what happens next.

The entire movie, which looks good considering it was probably made on a shoestring budget, comes with tongue planted firmly in cheek and is meant as a parody on both the superhero genre and Hollywood. The dynamic duo lands a couple of jokes, lets others drag on far too long and included several others that would have better been left on the cutting floor. While the lightheartedness and charm that oozes off the screen is all pleasant enough, I think I’m just gonna stick with Deadpool and Kick-Ass instead.
