Institute is the powerful project Gavin Rossdale launched in 2004, during a creative break from BUSH, a moment that gave birth to one of his most compelling side chapters.
Joined by Chris Traynor (who has since then joined BUSH as guitarist), bassist Cache Tolman, and the unstoppable Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, Guns N' Roses, Foo Fighters, and more), Institute's lineup reads like a "who's who" of alternative heavy rock.
The band's only album was produced by Page Hamilton of Helmet, a name that almost guarantees the presence of heavy guitar riffs. This signature sound also defines Institute's debut record. The tracks stand out with their sharp structures and thunderous guitar riffs balancing mainstream rock power with Rossdale's unmistakable grunge roots.
Even before the album hit stores in September 2005, the album's explosive opener "Bulletproof Skin" (over 10 million Spotify plays) found its way onto the soundtrack of the Hollywood movie Stealth.
Long embraced by fans as a hidden gem in Bush's extended story, the record now returns to physical formats for the first time in years and is available in a premium CD Digipak and, for the first time, on vinyl.
Rossdale's passionate lyrics and the band's raw intensity makes this release an essential addition to any rock collection. With Distort Yourself, the band carved out a unique space in the mid-2000s rock landscape. A sound that remains as urgent and relevant today.
