Philadelphia’s Flatwaves is back with their latest single, “High Tide,” a swirling, fuzz-drenched track that showcases the band’s distinctive take on ‘90s shoegaze mixed with the raw energy of rock ‘n’ roll and the psychedelic swirl of fuzzed-out garage rock. Anchored by searing guitars and a relentless rhythm section, the single offers a solid blend of scorched sonic landscapes and surreal, Lynchian undertones.

“High Tide was a super fun song to create,” says vocalist Allie Lannutti. “Sonically, it’s pretty different from what we’d done before, but it kind of set the tone for where we ended up going next. I immediately was drawn to the raw, punk-inspired energy of what Stephen [bassist] wrote. There was something uneasy and restless about it that I wanted to tap into. The song is about compartmentalizing and avoidance. It’s basically the anthem of going into ‘This is fine, everything is fine!’ mode.”

“High Tide” is another taste of what’s to come on Flatwaves’ sophomore LP, Tell Me Secrets, out this summer via Philly’s own Abandon Everything Records (pre-order). The band’s 2022 debut, Numbra, made waves as a self-proclaimed “psychedelic wasteland,” and Tell Me Secrets promises to push even further into themes of death, disorientation, and sonic unraveling. The album was recorded by Justin Bartlett at Studio 4, capturing a sound that feels as intimate as it is explosive.

Flatwaves will bring their blistering live energy to Los Angeles on June 28, performing at The Echo as part of Dum Dum Fest III.
