Perfect 100 is a new band led by Brooklyn-based musician Andrew Madore, and they have just released their self-titled debut EP, out now via bloody knuckles. Packing massive, blown-out guitars, gauzy textures, and hooks for days, these four tracks are a must-listen for fans of all things loud and catchy.
Perfect 100 was mostly recorded by Madore at home in his apartment, with drums performed by Adam Wanetik and tracked by Ryan Accardi at Eusonia Studios. Everything was then mixed and mastered by loud music mastermind Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr, Speedy Ortiz, Supercrush), resulting in a charmingly raw set of crunchy rock songs.
The music might be effortlessly appealing but Madore's lyrics delve into themes of dependency and alcoholism with affable vulnerability "This EP consists of the first songs I’ve ever written in my life," explains Madore. "The idea to start trying to write music came in the aftermath of getting sober last year, and as a result, the songs themselves are all about that. When you get sober, it kind of feels like you’re re-entering the real world, and there are things you need to relearn and reevaluate. Naturally, the songs became a way for me to start processing a lot of emotions and thoughts I had been ignoring or casting aside."
Noisy guitars contrasted by sugary melodies and heart-on-sleeve lyricism is a tried and true formula but Perfect 100 are poised to stand above the pack by simply pushing that dichotomy as far as possible: these guitars are properly speaker-destroying, these hooks and harmonies are profoundly irresistible. So whether you're a indie rocker, a shoegazer, or a power popper—Perfect 100 might be your new favorite band.
