Los Angeles indie-punks Jacob the Horse release screaming into the void song “Tympanis”. It’s driving punk rock meets Queens of the Stone Age desert rock, with big Foo Fighter-esque, four-on-the-floor drums. Its vocal and guitar hooks lure you in with their clever dynamicism. The song freezes in a moment of panic and self-hatred.

“Tympanis” plays out like the soundtrack to a Russ Meyer film, as Rubinstien sings, “She clutches to her rosary / And carves her name into my arm / With her eyes as she stares at me / ‘I should have listened to my mom,’” or the accusatory chorus, “Your hair smells like the ocean, baby / Where did you go yesterday?”

Rubinstien had this to say regarding the music video: "We wanted to see how sick of my face we could make everybody, since the song is about that creeping feeling you get after a breakup, how memories of loss sometimes sneak up on you and hit you like a truck. We anthropomorphized that into an actual person chasing me with an axe, a bat, a flamethrower: you get the picture. We got to shoot actual footage of us playing in Long Beach at the Vans Warped Tour Block Party. Our friends in the band Stay Out organized a pop up and invited us to play. We dropped everything and drove down to Long Beach."
