Dave Hause shared “Gary,” the latest track to be lifted from the Friday, October 22 release of Hause’s highly anticipated fifth solo album, Blood Harmony (pre-order). Hause had the following to share about the track and its origin related to a lingering childhood memory:

“Writing anything about this song or topic makes me squirm. Gary was a kid I knew who got bullied in school. I wish I could say that I did the right thing and stuck up for him, but I didn’t, and it has bothered me for over 30 years. The idea started when I actually said to a friend that was pregnant ‘don’t name him Gary’ about her baby, out of fear that maybe the name is what would bring torment to her innocent kid. It felt like a great opening line to a song—the narrator is urging his wife not to name their unborn son Gary as a means to confessing what he’d done as a kid, and it ended up being a cathartic, bizarre song to write. I wish I could take the hurt I caused back, maybe putting this song out is the next best thing.”
