Though I’m Alone
7.0
From North Carolina comes Barrow, a band that’s kinda hard to pigeonhole… Yes, this is another cathartic hardcore band but try to think of a common ground between screamo, post-hardcore and post-rock if you will. Just like the album cover, the material on here is bleak. At times atmospheric, at other times dense as can be with a noisy and claustrophobic edge.
The more introspective parts are nicely juxtaposed against the loud eruptions and make “Though I’m Alone” (what an angsty title!). Seven minute closer “God’s In His Heaven” pretty much sums up what Barrow is about… brutal yet beautiful. Brutiful… anyone?
