The Great Punk Rock Songbook: The Linda Lindas’ Essential Picks
The Linda Lindas – Bela Salazar (guitar, vocals), Eloise Wong (bass, vocals), Lucia de la Garza (guitar, vocals), and Mila de la Garza (drums, vocals) – recently released their third studio album, Gotta Get Out, on Reprise Records. Written together in Palm Springs and Long Beach, the record captures a creative breakthrough as the band pushes their sound into more expansive and personal territory while embracing change, imperfection, and self-discovery across every track. Catch them bringing that energy live when they play The FEST Aftershow at Bo Diddley Plaza in Gainesville, FL, on October 22.
We asked them to nominate one song they feel deserves an undisputed place in The Great Punk Rock Songbook, punk rock’s unofficial canon. Below, the band breaks down the tracks that helped set the standard.

♫ Jawbreaker - "Boxcar"
For my contribution, I’m picking “Boxcar” by Jawbreaker. Our first touring experience was with them, and the way the crowd reacted to this song every night is so ingrained in my memory. I love the attitude in the song, and the fun energy that captures exactly what I love about punk music.

♫ X-Ray Spex - "Germfree Adolescence"
“Germfree Adolescence” by X-Ray Spex! This was one of the first songs we ever learned, when we still didn’t really know how to play our instruments. I have nothing but fond memories of playing it and it brought such a fun and carefree attitude to the set every time. It was one of the few songs I didn’t play drums on and could just sing in the front. Also having been around 8 or 9, I learned about deodorant and was very sure to wear it.

♫ Bad Brains - "Attitude"
I’m choosing “Attitude” by Bad Brains. Their self-titled album was the first punk record I discovered completely on my own, without my parents’ musical influence. “Attitude” captures everything I love about punk—raw energy, intensity, and being unapologetically yourself. It will always be special to me because it was the beginning of discovering punk on my own // the beginning of my punk journey!!

♫ Trap Girl - "Dead Men Don’t Rape”
Trap Girl is one of my favorite bands ever. They sing with such a beautiful blend of ferocity, danger, and love. Trap Girl’s music not only compels the listener to dance, but also encourages us to fight tooth and nail for the people we love.
