Backmasker is a relatively new punkrock band that doesn’t try to hide its influences. What they’re doing on “Effigies” can’t exactly be called groundbreaking but this Cali outfit does know how to write a mean tune that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Epitaph or Fat Wreck catalog from back in the day. The five songs on here are fast punkrock ditties with a light metallic crunch and the occasional solo. Strung Out is a name that came to mind with the only difference being that the vocal lines tend to be a bit monotonous.
