The Brains get to call Montreal home but probably never see their city by day, instead creepy crawling through the city’s darkest alleys at night. Yes, this is a psychobilly band. One that comes with all the clichés including the crooning vocalist, the B-movie artwork and the stand up bass. Think Nekromantix or Tiger Army and you’ll get the general gist of it.

The guitars are fast as fuck… kinda like a meth-fueled version of your typical rockabilly band. Meanwhile vocalist Rene D La Muerte is doing his best to keep his own in the middle of the mayhem. They’re doing a pretty bang up job on “The Monster Within”, one of the more pleasant psychobilly albums I’ve heard this year. I think it’s also my first of 2013 so that’s not saying much…
