Having never heard of Austria’s Witchrider before, I went into “Unmountable Stairs” thinking I was going to hear some kind of 70s occult rock. Much to my surprise however, opening track “OCD” is a lot more Queens Of The Stone Age than say, Blood Ceremony.

From there they go on with the rather awesome “1 To 5” and the equally rocking “Far From You”, which has some badass fuzzed up riffing going on. “I’m Outta Breath” sees the band taking it down a notch while keeping things equally compelling. And from there on, they just keep on going without firing a single blank.

If you’re into melodic stoner rock, there’s really no going wrong with this one. Granted, they’re hardly reinventing the wheel here but with songs this good, I’m more than willing to forgive them the lack of a sound that is all their own. Because let’s face it, it’s better to write kickass songs that will remind people of another band, than to come up with something original that sounds like shit.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
