The Wild Wild is a new synth pop outfit who have just released their self-titled debut EP. You can tell they’re from sunny Santa Cruz as soon as opener “When We Were Young” drifts out of the speakers… sun-drenched synths, exuberant beats and uplifting vocals are key here. It all sounds not too different from the likes of Fun and Passion Pit with some Chvrches thrown in. But there’s also “The Avenue”, which  made me think of Genesis for some reason… go figure!

This first encounter with The Wild Wild is pretty decent all in all. “When We Were Young” could be all over the airwaves with summer just around the corner. I’m just hoping they will add a little more variety when the full-length comes out because even with just four songs and one interlude, things start to blend together.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
