On their third album, Australia’s Paper Arms get it right. With a sound that lingers somewhere between punkrock, emo, post-hardcore and grunge, they sound like Nirvana one moment (“This Time”) and Funeral For A Friend meet Balance And Composure the next (“Pick Yourself Up”). Whatever way they choose to go, the rhythm section is always as tight as can be and the guitars swirl, spiral and crash before ringing in yet another great chorus. As for the vocals, they are melodic and raspy in equal measures and complement the music beautifully.

They might have called the album “Great Mistakes”, but there are few of mistakes – if any – to be found throughout these thirteen songs.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
