Even though the name ‘louder than bombs’ will forever be associated with the Smiths album of the same name for most, these Michigan dudes are giving it a try nevertheless. “What Resonates” is filled with the kind of punkrock tunes with post-hardcore touches that reminded me of Polar Bear Club. A lot of other people seem to think of Hot Water Music but other than the gruff vocals, I’m not really hearing it.

The songs that make up “What Resonates” are decent enough… powerful, energetic and relatively catchy yet sitting through the entire album, the songs tend to sound alike after a while. While this is certainly no slouch, Louder Than Bombs need to inject their songs with that little extra to stand out from the pack with their next release.
