Oakland, California indie punk band Long Knives recently released their debut EP “This Is Your Life” on Count Your Lucky Stars. The four songs on here are pop-infused, melodic and energetic affairs that are musically okay. It’s not like they are reinventing the genre but they do a pretty good job.

Opening track “Bones” immediately sets the tone… poppy without being sugary and with just enough grit in the guitars to counter Kris Moya’s sweet vocals. The rest of the songs on here follow the same path and while they are enjoyable enough, it’s not quite enough to set them apart from the rest. It wouldn’t hurt things if they threw in some more memorable hooks or more guitar lines like the ones in “Home” on their next release. For now though, “This Is Your Life” is mostly harmless.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
