On their sophomore album, Australia’s The John Steel Singers swing from style to style with ease. While “Happy Before” has the words ‘poppy single’ written all over, the title track that follows comes with more of a krauty groove. Elsewhere on the album you’ll find a little funk or echoes of Duran Duran, whereas “There’s A Bird” wouldn’t have looked out of place on an Electric Guest album.

One thing that pops up all over the album are awesome harmonies, big hooks and an overall carefree vibe that’s drifting towards you like a haze of bong smoke. Other than that, you get the impression that pretty much everything goes as long as it sounds relaxed enough.

Rounding out “Everything’s A Thread” are the danceable “Lambs”, the jangly “TGI Tuesday” and the flute-enhanced mellowness of “MJ’s On Fire Again”. Some of the songs on here might not stay with you for much longer than its duration but overall this is a fun soundtrack to your next summer barbecue!

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
