I don’t think the guys that make up Direct Effect care much about what style of music they are playing. All they are worried about is whether it sounds good with the amps turned up to eleven. I can assure them that on “Sunburn”, it most certainly does.

Is it hardcore? Is it noise rock? Or garage rock? It’s all of the above rolled into one. I love how sometimes they even forget to play riffs and just whip up this wall of feedback before changing their mind and cranking out another pissed off riff. And while it may at first sound chaotic and loud as fuck… well, not just at first. That part remains. But you’ll also find yourself reaching for the repeat button because there’s something downright catchy about these tunes.

If you could take all the different elements you liked about Paint It Black’s “New Lexicon”, Ceremony’s “Rohnert Park” and The Bronx’ debut, I’m sure the result would sound not all that different from “Sunburn”.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
