New Jersey’s Aspiga dropped a new album on Paper + Plastick called “What Happened To You?” and we’d like to take a minute to thank them for doing so.

Ready?

Thank you!

These guys are hardly the first band to blend indie rock with some finely tuned melodic punk but we’ve rarely heard that mix being pulled off this good. It’s like Jawbreaker getting it on with The Weakerthans with the baby growing up in the nineties.

With the rhythm section laying down a sturdy foundation, vocalist/guitarist Kevin Day is given free reign to add sharp guitar riffs and melodic vocals that are damn near perfect. Songs like opening track “Medusa’s Dance”, “Wide Eyes” and “Chino Needs To Feel Big” are nothing short of amazing while the chorus of “Fortunes” sounds like Iron Chic bringing their A game. It all makes “What Happened To You?” an absolute pleasure to listen to.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
