From Orlando, FL comes a relatively young band called Among Giants. They just released a new 4-song EP called “Back And Forth” from which their more folky influences have completely disappeared. Instead they went for a noiseer approach that is off to a rather bland start with “Cats & Ferrets”. The vocals which are kind of in the middle between talking and singing don’t make much of an impression but when the rest of the band kicks in, things get slightly better and we’re off for some gritty punkrock.

It’s not that these guys are doing anything wrong here, it just doesn’t leave much of an impression. They sound tight, the songs are short and relatively fast-paced and the shouted background vocals are pretty decent. So why am I not liking this more? Is it simply because I have heard this being done so many times before or because the vocals don’t do it for me? It’s probably both. In any case, “Back And Forth” is okay but not much more than that.

Lacking the talent to actually play in a band, Tom decided he would write about bands instead. Turns out his writing skills are mediocre at best as well.
